E-Commerce Redesign

A comprehensive web shop redesign focused on improving user experience, navigation, product discovery, and conversion rates through modern interface design and optimized shopping flows.

The project encompassed complete visual and structural redesign across desktop and mobile platforms, creating an engaging and efficient e-commerce experience.

Overview

The redesign addressed fundamental UX issues in the existing web shop including cluttered layouts, confusing navigation, poor product presentation, and a cumbersome checkout process.

The new design prioritizes visual clarity, intuitive product browsing, streamlined checkout, and responsive layouts that adapt gracefully to all device sizes. Users can now discover products more easily, compare options effectively, and complete purchases with confidence through a significantly improved shopping experience.

Responsibilities

Technical Details

The redesign began with user research and competitive analysis to identify pain points and best practices. Information architecture was restructured to reduce category depth and improve product discoverability through clearer taxonomy and mega-menu navigation.

Product listing pages received significant attention with larger product images, improved product card design showing key information (price, ratings, availability) at a glance, and intuitive filtering/sorting options. Grid layouts adapt responsively—4 columns on desktop, 2 on tablets, 1 on mobile—maintaining visual consistency while optimizing for screen size.

Product detail pages emphasize visual storytelling with large, zoomable product images, image galleries, and clear product specifications. The page hierarchy was redesigned to surface critical purchasing information (price, availability, shipping) prominently while organizing secondary details (specifications, reviews, recommendations) in accessible tabs or sections.

The checkout flow was simplified from five steps to three (cart review, shipping/payment, confirmation) by consolidating forms and removing unnecessary decision points. Guest checkout was made more prominent, addressing a common conversion barrier. Progress indicators provide clarity about checkout stages, reducing anxiety and abandonment.

The design system implements consistent visual language with defined color schemes, typography hierarchies, button styles, and spacing rules. Interactive elements (hover states, loading indicators, success animations) create responsive feedback and polish the experience.

Responsive design ensures touch-friendly interfaces on mobile with appropriately sized tap targets, simplified navigation patterns (hamburger menu, sticky cart button), and streamlined product browsing optimized for vertical scrolling.

Outcome

The redesign successfully modernized the web shop's appearance and functionality, resulting in improved user engagement metrics and conversion rates.

Clearer navigation and improved product presentation reduced bounce rates and increased time spent browsing. The enhanced product pages provided customers with confidence-building information, reducing pre-purchase inquiries and product returns.

The simplified checkout flow addressed major friction points, with significant reduction in cart abandonment rates. Guest checkout option removed a critical barrier for first-time customers, while registered users benefited from saved information and faster repeat purchases.

Mobile experience improvements led to increased mobile conversion rates, acknowledging the growing importance of mobile commerce. The responsive design ensured consistent brand experience across all devices, building trust and recognition.

The modern visual design elevated brand perception and positioned the web shop competitively within its market. Positive user feedback highlighted the improved ease of use, faster product discovery, and overall shopping satisfaction.
